Ministry of Finance Building The White House of Weltevreden

Having accepted the reality that at the time palace was unfit for habitation, Governor General H.W Daendels decided to build a new palace for the governor general on a prestigious site which was the eastern side of the Parade Plaats (now Lapangan Banteng). The new palace called Paleis Weltevreden, was expected to display authority as if faced a square field of 350 m x 300 m and was situated crossways to the field's axis. The building then became known as "Daendels Palace", "Het White Huis'" (The White House) or "Het Groote Huis" (The Big House) and was the only of its kind and the largest in terms of its scale, style and period in Indonesia.

This book is a special compiled version of a technical report on the documentation based on records pertaining to one of the most important heritage buildings in Indonesia, which now functions as the main building of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia. Furthermore this project is actually a milestone in national terms in awakening the awareness of all stakeholders concerned with the enhancement of building conservation & preservationn activities in Indonesia in general.
